Red Crossbill

A small flock of Red Crossbills were making the rounds of the various feeding locations at the Thomas Howe Demonstration Forest just outside Gander Newfoundland. Typically these birds feast on coniferous cones but for some reason the cones are scarce this year as are the dogberries. Hopefully they will get enough nourishment from the sunflower seeds the various hikers and photographers leave on the snow for them.
